Gingerbread House Challenge! Or something...

Then we're starting off again on a brand new project!

The product this time (yes, really!) is going to be gingerbread house! Of course I have to make things complicated for you, so the first thing we'll start off with is this three tasks:

Task 1 - Reflecting

Task 2 - Analysing

Task 3 - Building

(I think you need to log in with your CIS e-mail to be able to see the links).

And the three objects you will be analysing in the second task is the following:

Object number 1

Object number 2

Object number 3

Task 2 will be homework due before next weeks design lesson.

Klassens samlede kunnskap om hvordan man kan teste logo

Hvordan kan man teste en logo? MYP4

  • By seeing if people recognize it
  • If people understand what the logo represents
  • If the logo sticks to the mind
  • If people want to invest in the company
  • look at it from different perspectives
  • Survey  or presentation for target audience
  • Was the client satisfied?
  • Will people remember the logo and what it stands for after one month?

  • Still gode spørsmål
  • Ha svaralternativer, ihvertfall på de fleste spørsmål.
  • Ikke for lang spørreundersøkelse.
  • Få med dere målgruppen - ha noen spørsmål som viser hvem som har svart på undersøkelsen.

Design lesson 22.10

Here's our plan for todays lesson:

- How can a logo be tested?
Reflect and start working on creating a test to evaluate the logo.

- Success of design and possible improvements
Briefly go through the rubrics of these two parts of the project.

- Impact of the solution
Go through the for this part, and start writing this last section of the project paper.

At last - I've got a new video for you! Here's what you have to do to be able to create a Google Docs form on the iPad:

Selvportrett med iDraw

I've tried to create a video tutorial for you to explain how you can create a self-portrait in iDraw for iPad. You are beginning to know me, so of course it is a bit lengthy... I'll try to create a shorter video next time! Hope you'll get some hints and tips.

Logos - third lesson

Ok, it becomes clearer to me that most of you need some more time in the first stage of the design cycle, so we'll use the first part of today's lesson to work on that (see my previous post).

Then you'll get some more time to meet in your design group to continue to work on the progress timeline, and at the end of the lesson you'll get to start work individually according to the plan you've just made.

And then I'll have some more information for you that you'll have to consider when you're making the plan for the next lessons. The work that you're planning for should result in the following:

Objective B - Developing Ideas (second stage of the design cycle):

1. Develop a design specification, which clearly states the success criteria for the design of the logo

2. Develop a range of different logo designs

3. Present the chosen logo, and justify the reason why you've chosen it

4. Develop accurate and detailed planning drawings/diagrams and outline the requirements for the creation of the logo

Objective C - Creating the solution (third stage of the design cycle):

1. Construct a logical plan, which describes the efficient use of time and resources, sufficient for peers to be able to follow to create the logo

2. Demonstrate excellent technical skills when making the logo

3. Follow the plan to create the logo, which functions as intended

4. Fully justify changes made to the chosen design and plan when making the solution

Each of the above strands should be answered by a separate blog post on your blog, tagged with "Logos" and "Objective B" or "C".

Logos! - second lesson

Ok, we're now in our quasi-second lesson in the Logos-unit. We didn't come so far last time, so this lesson we're going to continue to inquire and analyze more about logos.

And here's my plan for todays lesson.

First of, all of you have to read these four internet articles:
- http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/06/25/10-common-mistakes-in-logo-design/
- http://www.fastcompany.com/3028378/leadership-now/what-your-logos-color-says-about-your-company-infographic
- https://jobmob.co.il/blog/personal-logos-monograms-wordmarks-inspiration/

When you've read them, you're going to work on the four parts of the inquiring and analyzing stage of the design cycle. If you've forgotten them, I'll remind you what they were, and also give you some keywords to what I'm looking for:

1. Explain and justify what's the point of having a logo
 - Keywords, and key concept: Communication

2. Identify and prioritize what you need to know about logos to be able to create a logo that fit your client the best
 - Related concept: Form - Collaboration
 - Colors?
 - Text Fonts?
 - Client needs?
 - Target audiences needs/wishes?
 - Format?

3. Analyze a range of existing logos that's similar to the clients needs
 - Personal logos is what you're looking for
 - Pick at least four logos that differs in colors, fonts, form, etc and analyze how they are made up

4. Develop a detailed design brief of which presents what you've found out in your research
 - Summarize your findings
 - Try your best to draw some conclusions to what you yourself need to do

All the strands are to be answered in separate blog posts on your blog. REMEMBER: cite your sources (url - date read),  and tag your blog posts with: logos, inquiring

You'll get some time to this in class. What you don't manage to do in class is going to be homework due before next wednesday.

The next thing we'll do in todays lesson is that you will get some time to think about how you want the logo to depict yourself - how you want to appear, possible interest that you would like your logo to contain in some way. You have to write it down, because you are going to send it to your new personal designer, which now is going to be revealed!

And finally, at the end of the lesson you are going to have a meeting in your new design group to begin the work on a timeframe for the rest of the project:
 - How often and how many client meetings you'll need
 - How much time you'll need on creating the specifications
 - How much time you'll use on sketching ideas
 - How much time you'll need to draw out one of your ideas in a vector graphics program

This plan is part of your assignment, and answers to objective C, first strand: "construct a logical plan, which describes the efficient use of time and resources, sufficient for peers to be able to follow to create the solution". The plan should also be finished before next weeks lesson, and presented in a blog post of its own, tagged with: logos, solution.

You do not get to create the timeframe completely by yourselves. I have some deadlines that you have to follow:
Before Wednesday next week (9/9): All the above are to be done.
Before first Wednesday after fall break (8/10): The logo should be completed
Before the week after (15/10): The complete assignment with testing should be finished and delivered.

Logos!

First Unit - Logos!

Welcome to my new blog for our design subject! This is where I'm going to publish different information at the various stages of our units. This is also the way I expect you to keep a record of what you are doing in the different stages in the units.

I'm also going to make sure that all essential information will be in ManageBac as well, such as deadlines, rubrics etc. Most often the deadlines will come with a link to a new post that I've created on this blog.

So, getting back to our first unit! In this unit we are to explore logos, their function, form and colors, how they communicate a message, before you yourselves are going to create a logo. This is the setting:

You are an employee at a design company, and now you've got a new customer. The customer is unsure whether or not he really needs a logo, and what kind of logo he eventually should go for. Your task is to convince the customer that he really needs a logo, and then come up with different ideas to what your customer could use as a logo, before you in agreement with the customer choose one of the designs to develop into a .svg file to be used i.e. the customers business cards, letter paper, website etc.

Your task this first lesson is to, following the design cycle:

1. Explain and justify why the customer really needs an eye-catching logo.

2. Identify and prioritize what you need to know about logos to be able to create a logo that fit your client the best.

3. Analyse a range of existing logos that's similar to the clients needs.

4. Develop a detailed design brief of which presents what you've found out in your research and your analyses of this.

You have to present all your findings for your boss (me) in two weeks time. The exact deadline will be announced on ManageBac. And your boss wants the information you've found presented as one blog post for each question! You have very time, so use your time carefully and wisely! And remember cite sources - I want to know where you've found your information, or if you've just made up all the facts...

Good luck!
